Fished with Ed and his buddy Kevin up from the Dallas area. Our game plan was to fish lures with bait being a backup plan. Sure glad I had some bait left over from Wednesday. Launched about 0730 and after getting skunked on lures fishing mainly windy points and not seeing any birds, we put out some live bait for fish I marked along a ledge. Since we were drifting pretty fast, we put out a drift sock to slow us down and almost immediately the rods started bending over. We put 4 or 5 long fish in the box and released 7 or 8 more long fish in little over an hour in two long drifts. Then we alternated, a little lure fishing and a little bait fishing and a little boat riding. It seems all our luck was on bait east of the oil wells.
We did manage to toss 2 more long fish, 1 sand bass and 8 box into the ice chest while returning another half dozen long fish to Texoma along with 4 or 5 guide fish. All the fish were really fat and healthy and the long fish were nearly identical with the biggest at 23 inches. The fish were aggressive on the bite and all but 2 or 3 were lip hooked.
I had a great time watching Ed and Kevin catching the fish and they were pretty good hands as well as fishermen. I'm looking forward to the guys returning for some topwater this spring when schools out and maybe they can bring along Ed's dad this time.

Out scouting today for fish and especially bait as I haven't fished it for quite a while. Found some nice 3-4 inch gizzard shad very easily after sunrise and kept about 100 for today and for my Thursday trip. Did manage about 10 nice fish on bait that I released while getting skunked on lures for the first time in ?????, been a long, long time.
Headed in about noon to prep the boat for tomorrow.

Took a friend out for meat as he has a bunch of family coming to the lake over the holidays and they sure eat a lot of striper.
Fished all sassy shad and bucktail jigs. We worked for them, but finally limited out with a boxful of mainly box fish. I think there were a couple 22 or 23 inch stripers mixed in. Seems the fish we found were all partial to a 4" glo sassy shad in shallow water.
My buddy outfished me 5:1 and after thinking about it for quite a while, I think it was because of his slow, smooth retrieve. Mine was kind of jerky as I was continually stopping my retrieve to keep us off the rocks with the trolling motor & almost all the fish came from a shallow hole in some rocks on the leeward side of a windy point.

Wow! What a day. After a pretty slow start and picking up only 1 fish on every 2 or 3 points I fished, a friend called me over to where he was. I didn't go at first, but he persisted & Wow!
There were long fish everywhere and I stayed with them after both the 2 other boats and birds left. I guess I threw back about 30 fish in 3 hours and nearly everyone was 20 to 25 inches. Caught nearly all of them in muddy water and between 2 and 16 feet deep, most in a large flat under 8 feet and all on sassy shad.

Thanksgiving, 2005
First off..... camera problems again, maybe Santa will come through as I'm getting frustrated!
I spent Thanksgiving on the lake with Ricardo and 2 of his buddies that operate EL MAISTRO Restaurant in Cactus, Tx. These guys were here about the same time last year and dropped in again at the last minute for some Texoma Striper lure fishing. As almost always, I had bait just in case and especially after having a tough day while scouting on Wednesday and only catching 6 or 7 all day. Beautiful day on an almost deserted lake after a little morning fog burned off with working birds everywhere. We got warmed up with some small box and guide fish under birds in Little Glasses on sassy shad and slabs before heading east. Newberry Creek produced a dozen nice sand bass along with about the same number of box Stripers. Later on we picked up fish on the main lake outside Newberry Creek and up towards Brookville before calling in quits around 2PM. The only way these fellows are allowed to come this far is if they come home with a bunch of good eating fish. We ended with 26 box fish, 4 long fish, 12 good sand bass and a tankful of shad that we never even used.
And for the third time, part of my payment was food at their campsite. Today it was 10 tamales.

Fished with Steve and his wife from Clinton, OK yesterday. Lots of Birds, Boats, Bait and that meant lots of Bass. Must of caught 30 to 40 fish yesterday and could have caught a lot more of the little fish had we wanted. Threw most back except for 5 that for a little fish fry. Lots of fat 19 inch fish and about 7 or 8 over 20 inches with the biggest being about 23."
Caught lots on bait and probably nearly as many on sassy shad and slabs.

Been fishing several times with friends during the past week. Looks like the cold weather has really turned the fish on. This kind of fishing is hard to beat. May not have the size as Springtime stripers, but sure are a lot of hungry fish out there.

Jonathon and Dan returned to Texoma to fish lures, mainly topwaters, hoping to do as good as we did in the Spring. No such luck but it sure was a beautiful day for boat riding. Seems nobody was doing any good chucking lures today as we managed only a couple stripers to go along with some black bass and a nice sunfish. We started at Little Glasses and hit the Caney & Rock Creek areas on the way down to the islands.
Fortunately, around 3 PM on our way back to the ramp, we came across some birds and fish outside of Alberta Creek and managed to put our 4 long fish and about a 7 or 8 more nice box fish before calling it quits. Most of these came on bait as we finally decided to lay down the lures and drown some shad.Action pretty fast and furious at times which resulted in Texoma claiming one of my live bait rods. Even with a rod float on it, the striper managed to pull it under. NICE FISH!

Sorry for the gap in the updates, weren't no fish caught this summer anyway. I had to take some time off but resumed striper fishing Texoma October 1st.
It appears the fishing is picking up, the gulls are working and the stripers will soon begin to put on some weight. I will also resume posting the photos from trips later this week.

Been fishing with MaryAnn & Jim from Louisiana the past two days. We did a little slabbing and also some bait fishing. We managed to get our long fish but came up short on our box fish limits both days even though we started out around 0530. But, we had a great time and I hope we'll give it another go next time they venture west.

Had a great day on the water with a couple fellow Oklahomans, Daryl and his son.
We left out of Alberta Ckeekbright and early around 0515 and got back about noon. WE startrd out throwing top water lures before switching to live bait down below Little Mineral. Caugft and released a bunch of guide as well as 7 long fish while keeping our limit of long fish and only 10 box fish as these seemed hard to come by
Overall, everyone had a good time, the weather was great and we made it back alive.

David brought his son down from Paul’s Valley for a surprise striper fishing trip as a birthday gift. Caleb celebrated his 12th birthday today by out-fishing everyone as he’s a top-water fishing fool that even managed to get both striper and sandbass to share the same skitter pop. We got several nice topwater stripers by the RR bridge then moved south were we ran into a mess of thrashing shoreline fish. While small, these fellows put up a big fight. Caleb’s fast pooping retrieve landed 5 fish in 4 casts, BEAT THAT …… Sat off the Washita channel outside Lakeside and plucked away on bait, but we never really got hammered by a big bunch of fish. Nearly all were nice fish, many over 20, biggest nearly 5 lbs. Decided to try drifting some bait over on Table Top before heading back, great idea. Caught a couple and marked so many we decided to anchor. Got some back outs with lots of bigger fish in the 6 or 7 lb. range. Biggest was a little over 8 lbs. fish. Heck of a finish to a birthday fishing trip.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CALEB...but you're missing at fish. Look at the rod bent over behind Caleb.

Caleb's 8 pounder just got a hit on the rod at right 4 catfish today A little sandbass & striper on a skitter pop

Fished with Richard today. Since he enjoyed top-waters, we tried that first up north. He got a long fish we released and 1 for the box before smaller stripers and sandbass moved in on us. A calm windless, cloudless morning along with a bright, hot sun forced us into baitfishing midlake. Got our long fish, but ended 1 short on boxfish. Once again, spening too much time on topwater after the bite ended caused us to miss out on a early morning baitbite, but, we had more fun. Sure was hot out there without any wind.
Nothing like a crowded ramp after a long hot day on the water. :)

Fished with Eugene again today. Our standard pattern, topwaters first then baitfishing. Started up north with 7 or 8 nice fish before heading west to Caney Creek as cloud cover looked to give us a longer topwater bite. Probably got another 15 or 20 on spooks, pencil poppers, chugbugs and a homemade lure. Initial fish were nice sized though the last 7 or eight were guide fish. Fun, but not what we wanted.
Headed out to mid-lake for some bait fishing. Tried the area near TI point first without any luck before moving to Tabletop. Did a lot better there. Probably another 25 fish on shad while sitting in 58 foot of water. Most were long fish as we managed only a couple of box sized fish. I believe most were males as we only kept the 1 fish that swallowed the hook. There were no subtle bites as the bait was really hammered and most of the fish were just lip hooked. Action came in spurts, nothing then 2 or 3 rods down at the same time. Great day today.

Fished several hours Saturday with a soon to be groom, Brian and 3 of his buddies, Brian, Chris and Tony at the conclusion of their all-night card game We decided we wanted to start early with some topwater fishing and hoped the some stripers exploding on top and the fear of getting stuck with a spook or pencil popper would wake up some folks. Between backlashes, we did manage some nice, frisky topwater male stripers along with several other blowups and missed fish before the sun poked through and killed the action. Then we tried some baitfishing, but the gentle rocking of the boat along with a slow bite, soon had half my crew asleep. Somehow, another 6 fish managed to hook themselves before we called it a day.
Guys, hope you got some sleep and nobody got killed on the 4-wheelers.
Brian congratulations and Good Luck on your marriage
Brian W. bring your Dad back down next time

Some more reasons to be on the water at daybreak other than great top-water action

Saturday, April 30, 2005
Tried topwater again this AM with Jonathon and Dan. Of course yesterday's pattern wasn't there again today, but we tried. Today started good until Jonathon lost a nice fish & pencil popper right at the boat on his second cast. We were able to get a nice but small mixture of fish as the guys were staying in a cabin and needed something to eat.
Jonathon was camera shy, but Dan was kinda proud of his trophys. These included a nice largemouth, crappie, striper, drum and I guess a "real" rockfish.

Fished topwater with a couple friends this AM. Put nearly 30 fish in the boat in a little over 2 hours. Nearly all were long fish that attacked our red fins and pencil poppers nearly on the shore. Steve acted as mate unhooking the plugs and netting the fish Wes and I caught. Of course, nobody brought a camera along as the weather was really lousy at daybreak. Wet, damp & cold.

Fished Saturday with Richard and his son Ramon who were down from Anadarko, OK for some striper fishing. Ran around a lot in the AM catching one per location, but finally located some nice fish up north in the afternoon. Made 2 drifts with bait and got a bunch of very, very fat 19"-22" fish that were all males.
Here's Richard netting his son's fish and Ramon returning the favor.

After being grounded for nearly 3 weeks ashore, I was finally able to get back on the water this week. Catching plenty of fish, only they were either small stripers or sandbass.

Thursday, March 17, 2005
Today I fished with Greg Lubbers and his twelve year old son, Justin. We gave it our best but those ol' Stripers just wouldn't cooperate. We mananged some, but nothing like we had hoped for. It was a great day to be on the lake and other than not catching a bunch of fish, we all had a good time out there.

Monday, March 7, 2005
Went fishing with a couple Texans, Bruce Penry and his buddy from the hill country , Tommy. We nearly had the entire lake to ourselves as I guess the weather forecast or high winds kept most of you folks on dry land.
We weren't quite able to roam in search of the fish as we would have wanted because of the rough water, but we still had a pretty good trip and managed to catch some nice fish on sassy shads. Even with Bruce's 6 lb. line, we were able to put 9 fish in the box and released several other long fish not counting a really nice fish with a wild eye shad in its lip and connected to some of Bruce's line.
Biggest was 26". All were very healthy and most were females.
Hey guys, good luck on Tuesday's jug fishing.

Friday, March 4, 2005
Fished with a friend today. Stripers were fair, but I managed to catch a really fiesty, fat smallmouth that tipped the scales at 5lb. 5 oz. before being released. Looks like she has led a charmed life as someone else appeared to have recently caught & released her.

I've been doing a lot of fun fishing for the past 2 weeks and we have been catching nice healthy stripers along with scattered blackbass, both largemouth and smallmouth bass. These fish have all been caught on artificials as they are so much more fun to fish with than live bait. Plus, it's a way to keep the blood flowing.
Rain and 37 degrees sure made for a cold couple of hours yesterday, but 6 fish between 25 and 29 inches made me forgot the cold and start planning for today. We sure were rewarded for braving the cold today. While we only managed 3 fish, they totalled about 40 lbs of big, fat striper. Here I am with the big girl.

Went out for the first time this year with Eugene Tucker of the Norman area and his 15 year old nephew, Brody. Great weather but the bite was kind of slow for us and others we met out there logging miles.
Brody has only fished a couple times and this was his first Texoma experience, but he did manage to lay a whipping on his Uncle Eugene's 8 lb. striper with one measuring a whopping 10 lb. 5 oz. Both of these fish tapped on the Wild Eyed Shad before hammering them as we were slowly drifting over a point in 25 feet of water.
Good going Brody, just don't expect double digit fish every time
Everyone had a great time on a beautiful day and we were even lucky enough to spot some bald eagles.
